Sunny Ridge - 6PM-8:30PM - Movie Night
About this event
January 7th's Movie: Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

It's always interesting the topics of discussions that spring up while a bunch of old ranch hands gather around the bunkhouse stove on cold winter evenings. The other night, Squints Seymore asked if anybody had ever seen any unusual and unexplained lights or flying objects in the sky while riding night hawk over the heard. Quick glances around at the heads nodding in affirmation was a testimony of sorts that they had. Had anybody been riding fence when the wires started humming or experienced leaves and branches falling from trees on a windless day? Again, nods of affirmation. Anybody remember a few years back when some cattle were found dead with only their internal organs missing. And what about when Clickity Clack Conrad, the telegrapher complained of unusual interference with telegraph service. Messages went through but were garbled and stupid.
Squints then tips his chair back on the two rear legs, props his worn boots on the stove and stokes his corn cob meerschaum and puts a light to it.
Boys, I came across a book in the little library in front of the Broadway Boarding House written by an astronomer named J. Allen Hyneck. He describes encounters with so called extra terestrials. He lists and describes the kinds of encounters. The first kind is sightings with no rational explanation. The second kind is sightings associated with phenomena like crop circles, electric interference, and mutilated animals. The third kind is a sighting with visual confirmation.
Coincidentally, the movie showing Wednesday evening, January 7th at the Edenbrook theater is, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." This is a Steven Spielberg classic from 1977 starring Richard Dreyfuss and Teri Garr. Show time is 6 PM. Snacks and beverages are provided, as usual, by the cowboys from the Sheboygan Rifle and Pistol Club. Plan to attend. You won't be disappointed.
