Sunny Ridge - 6PM-8:30PM - Cowboy Movie Night

About this event

September 3rd's Movie: Payback (1999)

This cooler weather sure is a relief. After a long day of riding fence I sat on the bunkhouse steps with Scooter Martin to watch the sunset and let evening chow settle.. He was whitling away on a stick and I had just finished rolling a smoke when he turns to me and asks if I heard about the shooting behind the Sunset Hotel. I hadn't and he proceeds to relate to me the story he heard in the Broken Spoke Saloon while nursing a shot of Old LizardTail whiskey. It seems a couple of cattlemen had brought a herd of longhorns up from Texas and sold them in Hays City. They split the proceeds after paying off their crew. Apparently, one of the cattleman owed some wealthy cattle barons in Chicago a lot of money he didn't have so he backshoots his partner when he went out to the little house behind the hotel. He took his partner's share of the money, got his horse from the livery and hightailed it out of town. A soiled dove from the hotel saw the whole thing and rushed out to the wounded man bleeding on the ground. The boy from the livery stable showed up as well. They got the doc and the wounded man was gradually nursed back to health but vowed to hunt down his partner and get his share of the money back.

This month's Cowboy Movie Night has a similar story line. The movie is "Payback." A 1999 movie staring Mel Gibson, Gregg Henry ,Maria Bello and Debra Kara Unger. Mel Gibson plays the part of a career criminal who pulls of a heist with a partner. His partner is in hawk to the syndicate and fears for his life so he shoots Gibson in the back takes his share of the money and leaves him for dead in a parking garage. Gibson is nursed back to health by a former girlfriend and is looking for payback. He wants his share of the heist money and will do just about anything or kill just about anybody to get it back.

The movie will show Wednesday, September 3rd in the Eden Brook (formerly Sunny Ridge) basement theater. Show time is 6:00 PM. Free snacks and beverages are provided or bring your own. Running time of the movie is 1hour 41 minutes.

Looking forward to seeing you for this last of the summer movies. We will start up with movies of the western genre again in October.
